Hi I’m The Bushbaby and I first started DJing in a social club in Tottenham, London, with a half black – half white crowd – this was 1977 and aged 10 on a set of Discosound decks and that continued until I was about 14!

Having always had a soldering iron in my hand at aged 16 I built my first FM radio broadcast transmitter and soon found myself with a radio station broadcasting as North London’s Weekend Soul station from my parents home. Cruise FM was born on 104.50.

At its peak the station had 20 odd DJ’s playing the best of black music right into the small hours and with a growing following with a host of advertisers and supporters.

Having had a few years of uninterrupted transmissions we ended up suffering the studio raids of all studio raids and lost every piece of equipment possible one Sunday afternoon while my good friend Simon was behind the decks playing one of my vinyls Chaka Khan Eye to Eye 🙁

Having just relocated to a fellow DJ’s home at the time, David Hasler, who was only 15 the law provided that we could have, after a long bitter wait, all the equipment and records back – minus transmitting systems due to David’s young age of 15 at the time.

I continued transmitting for most of the 80’s in one form or another – this station and that and ended up hanging up my radio phones in 1990 having lost a valuable broadcast and studio site in a block of flats in Alma Road, North London due to landlord problems.

At the same time as all this madness for about 10 years me and another DJ colleague Andy Mac had been running a mobile sound system and this continued in many guises and at most usual venues and having loads of fun until finally, in about 1993, when marriage came and I finally gave in or as I like to call it retired from DJing.

So fast forward to 2013, and after much nagging from DJ Marky Mark Pendelton, I’m back and more importantly we’re back as Cruise FM playing digitally across the internet and on FM in various parts of Spain’s coastline – we are Probably the best Soul Station in the World, probably!
