Mark “Deadly” Smedley started his love of dance, soul, jazz/funk and reggae in the early 80’s and was educated at the school of Robbie Vincent, Greg Edwards & David Rodigan with extra tuition from Radio Invicta 92.4.
Further education followed listening to Kiss, Horizon, JFM, LWR and he soon realised a career in radio was to be his desired path in life.
After DJing at parties, wine bars and small clubs landed a job at Kiss 100 in 1990 and became Head Of Production and also on air presenter filling in for David Rodigan’s reggae show and daytime shows whenever the Guvnor said “Smedley get in the studio, you’re needed”. He held DJ residencies at Stringfellows, Limelight, Caspers Ride Of Your Life, hundreds of one off gigs at almost every London club, and yearly on the main Kiss 100 stage at Notting Hill Carnival.
In 1999 he left Kiss 100 and set up Deadly Productions producing radio commercials primarily for large record companies and has done so ever since. Still having the passion for broadcasting you can now hear him back on the airwaves after a long hibernation presenting “The Deadliest Selection Of Dance” which covers the past, the present and the future of Dance Music under the Soul heading.
“Deadly” is a Spurs season ticket holder, father of many “Deadly” children and always has a positive outlook on what life throws at him.
